Emotional remembrance parade for fallen soldiers
The Remembrance day was arranged to honor fallen soldiers.
A Remembrance Day Parade was held for fallen soldiers at the Army Support Base in Potchefstroom on November 11.
Around 58 members were on parade as some civilians and family members of the fallen attended. Two minutes of silence were observed at 11:00 while the South African flag was at half mast, commemorating the exact time the Armistice took effect in 1918.
A Poppies ceremony was held where roses were laid on the cenotaph.
Lieutenant Colonel Andiswa Pahamodi said the members were very excited as it was their first Remembrance Day Parade, a tradition that they would like to uphold each year.
Pahamodi, who had just gotten back from deployment, said she felt it necessary to arrange the parade, even though there was not much time for planning.
“I felt time should not be a factor. We lost soldiers in DRC in 2024. This is the perfect time to honour them, along with the ones who went before us.”
