The North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo tabled the 2016/2017 budget totalling R492 243 million for approval by the provincial legislature last Thursday.
The budget is divided into three programmes, administration, institutional development and policy and governance.
About R106 216 million was allocated to administration, R213 310 million to institutional development and R171 717 million to policy and governance respectively.
According to Bonolo Mohlakoana, the director of media relations in the Office of the Premier, Mahumapelo told the provincial legislature that this budget will enable the office to play a strategic role in coordinating and leading the rebranding, repositioning and renewal of Bokone-Bophirima (North West) through the five concretes: agriculture, culture and tourism; villages, townships and small dorpies; reconciliation, healing and renewal; Setsokotsane and Saamtrek-Saamwerk.
Mohlakoana says it was remarkable that, in 2015, 229 unemployed youth were awarded bursaries and 109 grants were awarded to applicants in need of financial assistance.
On the issue of misconduct within the province, Mohlakoana says Mahumapelo handled 38 misconduct cases and meted out the appropriate sanctions. “Within the context of the public service code of conduct, professionalism and ethical conduct are the yardstick of discharging respective responsibilities to enhance the confidence of the public,” she said.
