Ikageng SAPS and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) have declared war on the spiralling crime in the community; they held a street blitz at Lekhele Street in Ikageng last Thursday.
Members from the two groups handed out brochures and leaflets on domestic violence, sexual offences, assault, burglaries, drugs and substance abuse and theft out of motor vehicles.
Tebogo Medupe, the secretary of Ikageng CPF says the purpose of this campaign was to mobilise the community towards a problem-solving partnership between the community and the police.
“We urge the whole Ikageng community to act in unity against crime. This campaign is one of many that will be held throughout Ikageng to raise awareness.
“Today, we had a successful campaign. We engaged with motorists and pedestrians in Lekhele Street and interacted with passers-by. People listened and responded to the pressing crime issues that we raised,” he said.
The sector commander of Sector One, Const. Morwa Mahery-Moshou was impressed with the people who took heed to their call to fight crime. She says the police made a breakthrough in communicating the importance of reporting crime anonymously.
The Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom urged the community to assist the police by reporting any criminal activities in the community.
