Delivery van hijacked on Parys road

A delivery van was hijacked on the Parys road while travelling to Potchefstroom on Thursday.

A delivery van was hijacked on the Parys road while travelling to Potchefstroom on Thursday.
According to Capt. Mvula Chaka, the police spokesperson, the van was on its way to deliver electronic goods in Potchefstroom. About three kilometres before Potchefstroom, the maroon Hyundai that had been following the van, overtook and the suspects in the car pointed a firearm that looked like an assault rifle at the driver of the van.
The occupants of the van were forced to pull over and exit the vehicle. The suspects then forced the delivery team into their car while another suspect drove off with the van.
A passer-by saw what happened but, while he was turning to help the delivery crew, the suspects opened fire on the civilian vehicle.
“Luckily nobody was hurt during the incident. The victims were dumped near Randfontein and police later found the empty delivery van close to the R53,” said Chaka.
According to him, the value of the stolen goods amounts to about R500 000. A case of hijacking is being investigated but no arrests have been made to date.
