A farm worker died tragically on a Ventersdorp farm while he was trying to remove cattle feed that was blocking the harvesting machine.
According to Orpa Mathabe, the NW provincial communicator from the Department of Labour, preliminary reports from the investigating officer indicate that the machine was in motion when the deceased was removing the blockage.
The rotating blades amputated his leg above the knee, leading to his death.
Mathabe says the North West labour inspectors are investigating the incident.
“Investigations are underway to determine whether there was any negligence on the part of the employer or employee.
The deceased worker was employed as a general worker on a farm that produces cattle feed,” she said.
