The water crisis that has engulfed the town of Kroonstad saw learners from Potchefstroom Central School, Stitchwise, and Underground Technology Consulting jumping into action to help the Kroonstad community.
Mr Chris Van den Berg, headmaster of the school says their school’s motto is ‘I serve’. “The learners all jumped in to serve those in need in Kroonstad. That’s what we believe in,” he said. The proud principal says about 10 000 litres of water were collected in the three days from Tuesday to Thursday.
Kelebogile ‘Kele’ Tseladimitloa, head of Training at Stitchwise, a manufacturing company based in Carletonville, was the one who approached her alma mater to help out after hearing about the water shortage in Kroonstad from a colleague.
“When I approached the school, the learners all jumped in to help out. They are the most wonderful kids, who are ambitious and always ready to help. They were concerned that other kids do not have water to bath or to drink. They have been collecting the water since Tuesday. That is how impressive these kids are,” she said.

Kele thanked the learners and their educators and reminded them that the joy of giving is greater than that of receiving. “Let’s go out there and make the world a better place,” she said.
Recently, the SABC reported that Kroonstad’s water crisis has worsened. The town had only water supplies for the next 10 days. The area needs more than 45 million litres of water a day.
