Alleged bully stabs learner on school playground – SAPS

In an unprovoked act of violence, an Ikageng ‘bully’ allegedly stabbed a learner in the school grounds during break time last Friday.

In an unprovoked act of violence, an Ikageng ‘bully’ allegedly stabbed a learner in the school grounds during break time last Friday.
According to Const. Kelebogile Trom, Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, two high school friends were casually enjoying a cool drink on the playgrounds of Seiphemelo Secondary School when the bully came up to them and grabbed the drink.
The 18-year-old victim begged their assailant to leave them alone and give their drink back but, instead, he took out a knife and stabbed him twice, in the left arm and on his lower lip.
The principal intervened and took both learners to his office and called the ambulance.
While Elias Malindi, the media liaison manager from the NW Department of Education, did confirm the incident, he says the report from the school indicates some discrepancies.
“The headmaster heard the noise and rushed to the toilet where the fight took place. Both boys had injuries; one had two stab wounds and the other, a single wound.
The headmaster could not confiscate the weapons because neither of the learners was prepared to reveal them.
The police and the ambulance were called to the scene but the police were also unsuccessful in their attempts to take possession of the weapons and advised the boys to open cases at the police station,” he said.
Malindi says a meeting with the parents has been scheduled.
“The normal disciplinary procedures will be followed, a hearing will be followed by an investigation.
“Whether one or both of the learners will be suspended will depend on the outcome of the disciplinary process.
“We strongly condemn violence in our schools and we forbid learners to bring dangerous weapons to school. We are against violence because it discredits the value of the education we want to provide to our learners,” he said.
