Mayoral spokesperson rubbishes DA’s claims

The mayoral spokesperson, Victor Boqo has responded to the DA’s statement: Municipality moves residents to high-risk dolomitic land.

The mayoral spokesperson, Victor Boqo has responded to the DA’s statement: Municipality moves residents to high-risk dolomitic land.

He says the Ext. 9 Ikageng Township Establishment planning process, in its current form, complies with all the requirements for proclamation.
‘In 2009, the municipality commissioned dolomite stability investigations for Phase 1 of the Greenfield subsidised housing (GFSH-2) in an area proposed for residential and related land use development in Ext. 9. In fact, the investigation covered Ext. 8, 9 and 11 in Ikageng. Ext. 9 complies with the detailed dolomitic investigation and development classification.
‘The layout plan and the zoning classification have been set out in terms of the engineering geological and geotechnical report for township planning and all the determinations have been considered. He argued, therefore, that the suggestion that the Ext. 9 is not habitable is misleading, misinformed and baseless. ‘At this stage, the planning process and monitoring are driven by a dolomite steering committee that consists of various municipal departments, provincial stakeholders and the service provider. ‘There is no sinkhole in the area as suggested; the topographical pattern shall be addressed directly by our infrastructure department through the maintenance programme subsequent to the proclamation of the township. ‘The conditions of a general plan and township establishment have been considered and incorporated as part of the structural density guidelines and the land use pattern,’ says Boqo.
However, despite this assurance from Boqo, the DA ward 4 councillor, Johan Zerwick, has written a letter to council, stating that the water in Ext. 9 next to N12 (Mountain View) in a low-risk area has now been leaking for almost three weeks and the leak has still not been fixed, despite it having been reported on numerous occasions. ‘According to Ages (African Geo-Environmental Sciences), leaking infrastructure makes a low-risk area a high-risk area. Can you please give attention to this leak that is streaming and wasting thousands of litres of water every day,’ he pleaded
