Domestic worker brutally killed just before retiring

A 65-year-old man appeared in court on Wednesday in connection with the brutal murder of a domestic worker in the same week that she was due to retire.

According to Lt-Col Amanda Funani, NW SAPS police spokesperson, the body of 55-year-old Paulina Setlhare was found with severe facial injuries in Ikageng at about 07:00 on Monday morning.
The police are still waiting for the post-mortem results to establish whether she had also been raped.
Her aunt, Elisa Rammekwa, says the suspect was Paulina’s neighbour. She was like a younger sister to him and grew up in front of him.
The family has no idea of the motive for the murder.
The shack where Paulina was killed was covered in blood and it appeared that her body had been dragged and dumped about four houses away.
The family is opposing bail as, according to Elisa, he has shown no remorse since the incident.
Maria Setlhare says her sister had worked for a family in town for more than a decade and was about to retire. Both her daughters passed away many years ago but Paulina was still taking care of her granddaughter, 18-year-old Mathapelo, at the time of her death. She will be buried in Ikageng this Saturday.
