The J.B. Marks municipal manager, Dr Nomathemba Blaai-Mokgethi has tendered her resignation, this week.
Victor Boqo, the mayoral spokes- person, says the MM is leaving for greener pastures and will be joining the Gauteng Legislature as a member of the provincial legislature (MPL). Her contract with the municipality ends in June this year.
The MM emphasised that her departure is smooth and amicable. She joined the erstwhile Tlokwe Municipality in 2014, before the amalgamation with the Ventersdorp Municipality.

Achievements under her leadership
According to Boqo, the municipal manager, who has 27 years of local government experience behind her, achieved a lot during her tenure.
‘Under her leadership as the MM, she put systems in place, reviewed quite a number of the municipal policies, implemented performance management systems and the organisational structure.
‘All staff members were placed in the various departments after the merger and vacancies, including that of the chief financial officer, have been filled.
‘She also secured additional funding from the municipal infrastructure grant (MIG) for good performance every financial year.’
He added that the last amount, R27 million, was used for the construction of toilets and sanitation in the Ventersdorp region.
‘We also built new internal roads in Ventersdorp and Toevlug and a new one in Boikhutsong,’ he said.
Kgotso Khumalo, the J.B. Marks executive mayor expressed his gratitude to the MM and wished her well and success in her new ambitions and career.
He urged her to continue to serve the people of South Africa in her new capacity.
Boqo says the council will appoint the acting municipal manager at the council meeting on Tuesday, 27 February.
The MM’s term in office was a bumpy ride with relentless criticism and stern calls for her to vacate the office from the DA over the past three years.
