A J.B. Marks independent councillor, Lucky Mokoena was involved in a hit and run accident in January that saw the victim, Itumeleng Matlapeng, hospitalised.

Lt-Col Amanda Funani, the SAPS provisional spokesperson confirmed the incident and said the police were investigating a case of recklessness and failing to stop at the crime scene.
‘He was arrested on Saturday, 27 January and granted bail of R500. He appeared in court again on 15 February and once more on 5 March,’ she said.
Matlapeng (35) says it was around midday that he suddenly saw the speeding car swerve. He tried to avoid it but it was too late and he found himself on the ground. ‘I was bleeding from my mouth and nose. I was transferred to the hospital and suffered injuries to the head, forehead and left leg,’ he says.
Matlapeng is angry because the driver did not stop after knocking him down and says he would like to see justice being served. ‘I could have died,’ he added.
The community work programme (CWP) worker says the incident has left him jobless and without an income because of his injuries. ‘I still suffer from headaches and walk with a limp,’ he says. Mokoena declined to comment on the incident.
