A domestic dispute between lovers in Ikageng in the early hours of Saturday morning has left the boyfriend dead.

The woman later handed herself over to the police.
According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the SAPS spokesperson, the 33-year-old woman told the police she had stabbed her 36-year-old partner unintentionally. ‘She said she had been fighting with her boyfriend. He had a knife in his hand and was threatening to kill her and the child. During the altercation, the man allegedly tripped and fell and stabbed himself with the knife.
‘The victim was taken to Potchefstroom Hospital and died there,’ she reported.
Trom says the suspect has been charged with murder and has appeared in court. This latest murder comes after two brutal murders in Ikageng a week ago. The victims were males aged 25 and 19 respectively.
A group of people stopped the police during a patrol near a liquor store in Ext. 6 at about 23:11 on 3 March. When they arrived at the scene, the ambulance was already there and the body of a 25-year-old man was lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. The emergency medical and rescue services (EMRS) declared the victim dead. No one has been arrested yet,’ said Trom. An unanticipated incident took place at the same scene when a 41-year-old policeman was hit in the face with a beer bottle while cordoning the crime scene off. He sustained an open wound to his face and head and was treated at the Potchefstroom Hospital. Three adult males fled the scene. A 25-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested in connection with the attack and charged with assault GBH (grievous bodily harm).
In another murder case at about 03:50 the next morning, a 19-year-old man was stabbed in the neck by an unknown attacker in Mare Street.
According to his friends, they were walking back from a pub when the victim asked an unknown man for matches to light a cigarette. The man took out a knife instead, stabbed the victim in the neck and ran away. ‘EMRS personnel declared him dead on the scene. No one has been arrested so far,’ she concluded.
