On Sunday, a passer-by discovered a day-old baby boy covered with a jacket in a plastic bag, dumped in a dumping site between Greenfield and Sonderwater.
According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the Ikageng police spokesperson, the police were called to the scene at about 12:45.
The baby was then taken to the mortuary. ‘The police are investigating a case of concealment of birth,’ says Trom.
At about 22:15 on 10 January, a couple was found with a baby in a plastic bag in Marikana Promosa. WO Ishmael Mohutsiwa reported at that time that the police had discovered blood on the floor of the couple’s home and a pair of scissors on the bed. Their shocking discovery prompted the girlfriend to go to the drawer and come back with a black plastic bag containing the dead baby and another plastic bag with the placenta.
‘The ERMS personnel examined her and found that she had given birth. She was taken to the hospital and the boyfriend was arrested,’ he said.
