The month of March marks Social Work month. Caritas, the academic organisation for Social Work students celebrated International Social Work day on 20 March.

The theme for 2017/18 is ‘Promoting community and environmental sustainability’. In response to this theme and the water shortages in the country, the Social Work Department initiated the #socialworkwaterdrive. Over 2 800 litres were collected from the students, colleagues and staff. The water will be distributed to needy areas in the Western Cape.

With some of the water collected are Israeil (Gift of the Givers volunteer), Lwazi Masilela (Caritas chairperson), Tasleem Sayed (lecturer and coordinator of the project) and Morgen (Gift of the Givers volunteer).
