Fifteen Home Affairs employees have offered to work without any remuneration and work on two Saturdays this month, 23 and 30 June respectively.
According to Sydney Fokazi, the mobile office manager, the reason for these two special Saturdays is the application of smart ID cards and to commemorate Youth Month.
He encouraged all school learners from the age of sixteen years who only have birth certificates to apply for their free smart cards IDs.
‘We will only be focusing on smart card applications on these two Saturdays.
The general public is also welcome to apply,’ he said.
Fokazi says the Home Affairs offices will be open from 08:00 to 13:00 on these two dates.
On 29 June, the J.B. Marks executive mayor, Kgotso Khumalo and the speaker, Elias Mogoeemang, will hand over the smart cards on the premises.
‘Through its capable team of workers, the department is committed to ensuring that it accelerates the process and that the youth receive their smart ID cards on 29 June,’ said Fokazi.
