The Ikageng police rescued and transported a 38-year-old man to hospital after he was beaten with sjamboks and sticks for allegedly stealing money.
According to police spokesperson, Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the police are investigating a case of house robbery and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm after six males forcefully entered the man’s shack in Kanana at about 05:00 last Thursday.
Trom says the man reported that he was woken up and interrogated about money that had allegedly been stolen.
‘They started searching him and took R8000 from his wallet and a cell phone valued at R850. He was then assaulted and taken out of his shack to a street in Top City where they continued to assault him. Members of the community came and poured water over him and continued to hit him until the police came and rescued him,’ reported Trom.
Trom added that no one has been arrested at this stage.
