The municipality has noted with sadness the passing of two notable local figures, Mr Ndleleni Duma MPL as well as Mr Chris Drift.
Moses Ndleleni ka Duma, former Member of Provincial Legislature and Member of Executive Council in the North West, former Provincial Secretary of the African National Congress, former organizer of the United Democratic Front, founder of the Ikageng Civic Association in the heydays of civil uprisings of the 1980’s and founder member of the trade union movement in the struggle days of the late 1970’s.
A through and through activist forged in the coalface of the anti-apartheid struggles of the time, no mention of our country history of struggle can be complete without the mention of the name – Ndleleni Duma
Similarly, Chris Drift, a very warm, friendly and intelligently engaging personality. Member of the Democratic Alliance but also a caring community activist at large and across party lines or narrow interests. In his short but fruitful life Drift has had a stint with and contributed in the work of the Communication Unit in the erstwhile Tlokwe City Council in 2009 – 2010. Chris will be remembered for his selfless voice that echoed the deepest desires of the voiceless.
We are all shocked and astounded by the sudden loss of such young lives. Duma and Drift both still had so much to give to the people they had devoted their lifetimes to. However, every time we hear of a passing life we are reminded that our lives are not in our hands. We have to lay them to the Almighty our God.
We take this brief moment to say heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, relatives and friends of the Duma’s and the Drift’s. May their souls rest in peace.
