Municipal ward by-elections are set to take place in Ward 12 in J.B Marks on Wednesday, 22 May.

According to Kate Bapela, IEC’s spokesperson, the candidates that will contest the elections are Timoti Eddie Phakisa, an independent candidate; Gontse Molotsi from the ANC and John Pule Moelane from the EFF.

Bapela says the ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the death of ward councillor, Duduetsang Modise.

“The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 municipal elections was 60.77 per cent and the ANC candidate won the ward with 82.66 per cent of valid votes,” she said.
