
A hand grenade exploded in Leoka street, Ikageng on Sunday morning at around 06:00.
According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, Ikageng Police spokesperson, when police arrived at the scene, they found the fire brigade helping an injured couple, a 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman.
It is alleged that the man went to his girlfriend’s place. He knocked on the door but his girlfriend refused to open. “The man then allegedly broke the window, got inside and the couple got involved in an argument. She then saw him with a hand grenade in his hand and the next thing, it exploded,” said Sgt Trom. They both sustained serious lower-body injuries. The man broke both of his legs and one of the woman’s legs was ripped off, below the knee.
Sgt Trom confirms that a case of attempted murder is being investigated.
