Opera singers from Cape Town Opera and students from the NWU Music Department will present a free opera concert on Sunday, 1 March at the North West Music Conservatory.
Wonderful music by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Lehar, Bach, Delibes, and South African composers Ntuthuko Sibisi and Stephanus le Roux Marais will be performed and it starts at 15:00.
This concert is the highlight of a vocal workshop that five professional singers and a pianist from Cape Town Opera is presenting on Saturday, 29 February at the North-West University Auditorium. Invited schools from the Potchefstroom region who are taking part in the South African Choral School Eisteddfod (SASCE) later this year will be part of the vocal boot camp.
These workshops have been key to igniting a real love for opera and have subsequently been the launch pad of many South African opera singers. It forms part of a nationwide tour that includes Johannesburg, Mpumalanga, Polokwane, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Durban, Newcastle, East London, Queenstown, Welkom, Kimberley, George, and Cape Town.
The event is free of charge to the learners and schools and is sponsored by the City of Cape Town, National Lotteries Commission, Rand Merchant Bank, Maria Marina Foundation, UK friends of Cape Town Opera and Cape Town Opera.
