Police Minister, General Bheki Cele will on Wednesday, 16 December 2020, take the annual Safer Festive Season Inspection tour to the North West Province.

The visit on Reconciliation Day in Mahikeng forms part of efforts by the South African Police Service (SAPS) to tighten the grip on crime this festive season. Minister Cele, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, and the top management of the South African Police Service will assess the effectiveness of Safer Festive Season plans to put in place, to ensure that residents and holidaymakers are and feel safe during the holiday season.

They will also participate in various community awareness engagements and monitor adherence to COVID-19 regulations.

The day’s events will include:

  • 09:00 – the addressing of the parade at the TTA Parade ground in Mahikeng
  • 11:15 – A walkabout at the Mega City Shopping Centre
  • 12:15 – A walkabout at the Crossing Shopping Centre
  • 14:05 – A walkabout at the Mahikeng Taxi Rank & Spar Shopping Centre
