Another area where water is wasted

If you drive down Piet Cronje Street in Baillie Park, you will probably notice a trickling water leak that has been going on since early this year.
One of the residents, Mari Bener (43), who has been living in the same street for almost six years, notified the Herald of the water that has been leaking down her street for a couple of months.
Mari says she has reported the matter to the municipality before, yet nothing seems to have been done to resolve the issue. “After I contacted the municipality, they came here twice to ‘fix’ the issue. It calms down for a while, then starts all over again,” she explained.
Although Mari doesn’t know what causes the leakage, she says it isn’t the first time it has happened in the area.

“There are often streets in our area where the water leaks for long periods,” she said.
“Although the water leak in my street isn’t wasting large amounts of water, it is still an issue that needs to be resolved,” she continued.
People in the area use alternative routes to avoid potholes that are filled with water.
“It’s annoying to have to deal with it every day. I either have to drive around them or use another route,” Mari said.
Mari says she has called and even sent emails to the municipality. At first, she got a response, but it seems she is currently being ignored.
The Herald asked the municipality for comment but none was forthcoming in time for print.
