On Sunday, 8 August, a non-profit organisation (NPO) Lefa La Rona donated sanitary towels, toiletries and food to children in need at Ikhaya labantwana, Ikalafeng special school and Thakaneng.
Being their first project, the NPO managed to donate a total of 254 sanitary pads during the course of the day.
“Prior to the drive, we found out that due to a lack of funds, the children at Ikhaya labantwana are left with no choice but to make use of cloths during that time of the month, which highly motivated us to donate,’’ Lesedi Gaabue, founder of the NPO explained.
“The drive exceded my expectations,” Lesedi added.
It started off at Ikalafeng special school and Thakaneng where they donated pads and toiletries and ended off at Ikhaya labantwana where they also donated pads, toiletries, some groceries and also added a fun braai day for the 38 foster children.
Lefa La Rona is a new NPO, who wants to help disadvantaged children. “I started this NPO with the aim of giving back to the youth of Potchefstroom as well as focusing on early childhood development,” Lesedi explained.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to all those who donated and assisted in making the day a huge success. It wouldn’t have been possible without your help,” Lesedi said.
“I would also like to extend a further thanks to the stakeholders who took time out of their schedules to ensure the day was a huge success. We look forward to hosting many more events in the year,” she concluded.
