Bonginkosi Sihle Delabantu (29) appeared briefly in the Potchefstroom magistrates court on Wednesday (13 October) and remained in custody until his next appearance which took place today (15 October) for bail application.
Delabantu was arrested on the 4th October 2021 following the death of a 67-year- old woman in Ikageng. Binni Magdeline Mogaki was found at her house in Ikageng on the 17th July 2021 when police noticed that she was strangled to death with a piece of string that was found around her neck.
It was established during the initial investigation process that the deceased was staying alone and that only her cellphone and house keys were missing.
A team of investigators consisting of Organised Crime and Ikageng detectives was formed to trace the suspect/s. Since the case was reported, much analysis was conducted to isolate a possible suspect. The members had to do physical surveillance and, in the process, also befriended the suspect’s friends.
They eventually managed to identify the possible suspect’s house. They subsequently raided the suspect’s house but did not find him. The search was conducted at several places and the suspect was eventually spotted walking towards the Ikageng detectives’ offices where the team confronted him. After a short interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to his involvement in the murder. According to the police, the investigation into the matter continues.
