Police clamp down on stolen goods in Ventersdorp

"We would once more like to urge and emphasize a reminder to all Second-Hand Goods dealers that Chapter  2(1)  of the Act stipulates that every person, who carries out a business as a dealer must be registered."

In an endeavour to fight the buying and selling of stolen goods, police on Thursday, (10 February) conducted compliance inspections at all second-hand goods dealers in Ventersdorp.

According to the North West police spokesperson Sgt. Amogelang Malwetse two fines of R2500 each for failure to register a business as a dealer in  contravention of Section 2(1) of the Second-Hand Goods, Act 2009 ( Act No. 6 of 2009) were handed over by the police to two different cellphones shop businesses.

“We would once more like to urge and emphasize a reminder to all Second-Hand Goods dealers that Chapter  2(1)  of the Act stipulates that every person, who carries out a business as a dealer must be registered,” she says.

Furthermore the police says all dealers must keep a register in the prescribed form and register the prescribed particulars regarding every acquisition or disposal of second-hand goods.
