Motorists complain about road near taxi rank

One of the areas motorists try and avoid is the road on the corner of Rivier and New Market streets next to the taxi rank.

The pothole problem in Potchefstroom seems to be worsening. One of the areas motorists try and avoid is the road on the corner of Rivier and New Market streets next to the taxi rank. It has become unbearable for both motorists and taxi drivers.
“This road has been this way for a few years now,” a taxi driver confirmed. “It causes great inconvenience because we must either take a different route or have our cars damaged.”
Mbali Mofokeng, a resident, says it’s a shame that the municipality isn’t even far from the place and yet nothing has been done about it. “Especially because this is an extremely busy area,” she said.
A few taxi drivers say they haven’t bothered to report the matter because they know what to expect. “Week in and week out, we see articles about poor service delivery in our community but the municipality doesn’t respond,” they said.
The Herald asked the municipality for comment but had received nothing by the time of going to print.
