Tears of joy after community extends helping hand

Less than a month ago, a Potch-efstroom family had their backs against the wall and had no choice but to ask the community for help.

Less than a month ago, a Potch-efstroom family had their backs against the wall and had no choice but to ask the community for help.

For 14 years, Natasha Vaalbank and her husband, Darryl, have cared for their disabled son, Delron, who suffers from hydrocephalus, dandy walker syndrome and cerebral palsy. His condition has left him with limited limb functionality and he is dependent on a feeding tube.

Over the years, the family has managed to take care of their son’s financial needs, but things, unfortunately, became tough and Natasha had to ask for help. “It really pains my heart as a mother that we are at the point where we have to ask for financial help for the first time since Delron was born, but we honestly have no choice,” Natasha said a month ago.
In total, the family needed assistance with R70,000 for Delron’s wheelchair, a pump for his mattress, a tube mattress and the consultation in Johannesburg to get a wheelchair, which costs R1,000.

Within days, Natasha received numerous calls from people who wanted to pray for her to those who contributed what they could. “God works in mysterious ways,” Natasha said.
“One call that particularly stood out was from a man and his sons asking to pray for me. He told me to keep an eye on the bank balance. He didn’t say who he was, but soon R10,000 was deposited and I have a strong feeling it was him. We are extremely grateful,” she said.

So far, they have raised around R29,000 which they have used to get Delron a temporary chair since he has outgrown his old one, a mattress and pumps.
“We are so thankful to every person who took the time to either share our story, pray for us or contributed. God is truly good,” she said.
