Patron assaulted by security official

According to Police spokesperson, Colonel Funani, a case of common assault is being investigated after the victim opened the case.

On Saturday evening, April 17, 2022, a 19-year-old man was allegedly assaulted for no reason. According to Kathy Matras, her son, Benoydt Matras, was brutally assaulted by CB security officials for no reason.

“My son is half the size of those security guards and had no weapon on him nor did he steal anything from anyone,” She said in a Facebook post.

According to an eyewitness, the victim was accused of entering a lady’s restroom. The victim claims he did not enter the restroom. “The owner called CB security who then continued beating Benoydt instead of easing the situation,” the witness said.

In a statement that was released by CB Security this morning, (19, April 2022), the Reaction Officer who attended the scene’s services has already been suspended without pay, pending his disciplinary hearing. “ CB Security handles the case according to our company policy and procedures, of which a disciplinary hearing and internal investigation is part. Until the internal investigation and a criminal case is settled, no further information can be released,” the statement read.

“We now trust that justice will prevail, and will assist the SAPS in any means necessary,” the statement continued. Police spokesperson, Colonel Funani says, for now, a case of common assault is being investigated.

“He was allegedly assaulted after there was an argument inside the pub and the security removed the 19-year-old from the pub. When they were outside, a fight ensued,” she said.
