Police in Ikageng are investigating cases of kidnapping, robbery and murder following a horrific incident in Ikageng and Klerksdorp over the weekend.
Following an argument in Mbobi Street, Ikageng, on Friday night, 1 July 2022, a 32-year-old male overpowered and disarmed a 47-year-old male colleague. According to police spokesperson, Col Adele Myburg, after disarming his colleague, he threatened him with his own firearm. “The victim was instructed to call the suspect’s 31-year-old girlfriend,” she said.
The latter arrived a short while later with a male companion, aged 30. Shortly after stopping, the suspect allegedly fired two shots at the man and removed him from the vehicle. He then instructed his colleague to get into the back of the vehicle and drove off. He stopped at an intersection in Bathoeng Street and instructed his colleague to get out of the car and drove off with his girlfriend. In the meantime, the police were called to the murder scene and a lookout was given for the vehicle.
Several hours later, on Saturday afternoon, 2 July 2022, members of the Flying Squad received information that the vehicle was travelling along the Ottosdal/Hartbeesfontein Road. The vehicle was spotted, but it sped off leading to a car chase. Whilst chasing the vehicle, the driver of the Polo pointed his firearm at the police officers, prompting the members to fire shots. The driver ultimately pulled over and was found with a bullet wound to his head. Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) were called and the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Additionally, police found the body of the 31-year-old woman inside the vehicle with head injuries in the front passenger seat. The EMRS also declared her dead at the scene.
