Executive Mayor gets his hands dirty for Mandela Day

The Executive Mayor of the J.B. Marks Local Municipality, Gaba Ka Qhele led municipal officials during the celebrations of Mandela Day under the theme: “Do what you can with what you have, where you are”.

The municipality celebrated the day by contributing 67 Minutes in honour of Madiba’s legacy.

“We started off at Tlokwe Secondary School and proceeded to Madibeng Primary School, where cleaning of the school passage, floors and gardening was done in partnership with MEG Security,” Molahlehi Melamu said.
“The municipal team then moved on to Lesego and Ikageng Old Age Homes where there was also cleaning inside and out,  preparation of soil beds that was followed by planting of vegetable seeds,” Melamu added.

Although blankets were not distributed as planned Melamu says the day was an overall success and that the blankets will be distributed in the next planned events. According to him, other celebrations are scheduled to continue throughout the month in various areas around Potchefstroom as well as the Ventersdorp Region.
