Following the news that community members were zoning off the area, the municipality immediately sent security to the area to investigate the issue.
Jeanette Tshite, Acting municipal communication manager, says no arrangements have been made for an informal settlement to be formed at Boskop Dam, nor are they approving anyone to occupy the area illegally. ‘’ The matter is under investigation, however, we will not allow anyone to live there,” Tshite said.
A group of unknown people zoned off plots and allocation stands at DWS (Department of water and sanitation) properties, Boskop dam yesterday morning, August 28, at approximately 09:43.
A community member, who asked to remain anonymous, says he received a message in one of the community groups saying that a group of people were busy zoning off the area.
” I was already on the road so I quickly went to see what was happening and I saw about 25 people there and so I took a few photos,” the community member said.

According to him [community member ], an individual, who was part of those zoning off the area, said that the municipality had approved their actions, but she did not provide further information.
Based on the appearance of those people, the community member believes they don’t need stands in an illegal settlement. ” I did not recognise any of those people and they all look well dressed and organised,” he said.

In addition, the community member mentioned that this isn’t surprising since a counsellor has allegedly been allowing families to occupy vacant homes or state buildings in the area illegally for the past month.
