No electricity at Army Support Base for the past week

A substation that supplies power to the Army Support Base was vandalised

The Army Support Base (ASB) Potchefstroom has been without electricity since last Tuesday, 23 August.

This is because a substation that supplies power to the Army Support Base was vandalised.

“We received information from our senior electrician, who was informally informed that one of the substations supplying power to the Potchefstroom Army Support Base was vandalised by criminals sometime in the previous week,” stated the municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

According to Tshite, the substation belongs to the South African National Defence Force.

“Its operation and maintenance falls within the responsibility of the said department and not that of the municipality.”

The Army Support Base Potchefstroom’s communication officer, Captain Laura Makgokgoa, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation into the issue is currently underway.
