Water shortage also affecting Ikageng extensions

The municipality further stated that they are expecting to have more water trucks available today to assist residents with the water shortage.

The water crisis that is affecting large parts of Potchefstroom and Ikageng Extensions is in part due to the total shut down and supply of raw water into the treatment facility yesterday from 02:00 (Thursday, 15 September).

The JB Marks Municipality stated that the reason for the shut down was due to the upgrade of the Water Metering System that was conducted by the Department of Water and Sanitation.

“Most of the residents who receive water from both Vyfhoek and Eersterandjies Reservoirs got affected. The affected areas included Ikageng Extensions and larger parts of the Potchefstroom town,” stated JB Marks Municipality spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has since increased water supply yesterday from 18:00 and water levels are expected to rise today (Friday, 16 September.)

“We have engaged with the Department of Water and Sanitation since yesterday morning and they agreed to increase raw water supply from the Boskop Dam. The water levels in the Treatment Plant is being monitored and picking up tremendously.”

The municipality further stated that they are expecting to have more water trucks available today to assist residents with the water shortage.

“We expect water levels to have improved significantly from this morning. We have in the meantime engaged Eskom requesting them to isolate the Water Purification Plant from load shedding, something that will further assist in the increase of water supply.
We have two trucks supplying the areas of Ikageng such as Ext 11 and another one supplying at the Funerals. Two other trucks are supplying water at affected Suburbs. We are expecting to have more trucks today,” stated Tshite.
