Having founded the club 12 years ago to uplift youngsters and keep them off the streets, Ben Adams, chairperson of the Promosa Hengelklub (Fishing Club), was heartbroken to learn that people who were once part of the board have been using the name for financial gain for the past year.
“For months, we have been struggling to get donations, not knowing that people we once trusted are involved in shady dealings while using our name. It is completely heartbreaking,” he lamented.
Adams added they are not after money because it often causes problems.
However, he wants to reassure the public that all funds received are reinvested into the club.
“Our primary goal is to equip the little ones and others interested in fishing. Because fishing is such an expensive sport, we need proper equipment and angling gear,” he explained.
Promosa Fishing Club has officially changed its name to Potchefstroom Fishing Club to reduce fraud.
Due to the alleged fraudsters using their personal accounts, the club’s banking details remain unchanged.
However, Adams urges community members to contact him at 082 514 9438 and confirm before making any deposits.
