Following the Massive Cleaning Campaign that has been taking place since October 2022 covering most of the areas around the Municipality, the MMC for Community Services, Mantwa Kasale leads the campaign to assist cleaning at some of the schools around Ikageng.
The team comprises of Municipality Officials, Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) as well as the Mayoral Cleaning Project which is still hard at work attending to environmental waste hotspots ensuring that the town is continuously cleaned and healthy. For the last few weeks leading up to the new school year, the team has specifically been targeting schools namely Botoka, Boitshoko, Nanogang and Sarafina in Ikageng.

According to Mmereki Monyemore, Municipal Project Coordinator , there isn’t a set timeline of the cleaning campaign. “We are not asking for praise from the community for merely doing our job, our aim is to eventually get everyone on board with helping us keeping our areas clean,”Monyemore explained.
Monyemore adds that since the launch of the campaign, the municipality has gone to great lengths to ensure that different areas are cleaned on a daily basis. “ Our aim is to keep it clean,” he said. “Let’s create a better and conducive environment for our community,” he added .

Monyemore expressed that as expected, getting the community to assist in keeping the area clean has been a huge challenge. “ You clean an area today and within hours of a few days it is back to the way it was,” he lamented.
However, as time went Monyemore admits that slowly but surely, members of the community have been starting to get the message and most areas have continued to maintain their areas after they have been cleaned.
“Our current biggest challenge is the CBD area, Monyemore expressed. That area is cleaned daily but you would never say that because it is always filthy,” he added. Monyemoreis appealing to business owners within those areas to come on board. “We have noticed that a lot of business owners dispose of boxes and all sorts of other trash in the street,”Monyemore explained. “
This makes it impossible for us to keep the CBD area clean like other areas throughout town,” he added. “Like I said, we do not expect to be appalled for doing our job, we are just appealing to the public to assist us. We will not grow tired of working towards a greater JB Marks,” he concluded.
