The Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce invites all organisations, businesses and citizens to become part of the #ProPotch Clean-Up and Recycle Week, kicking off on 25 until the 29 September 2023. The Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce, together with Deswalner Recycling, Clean up together JB Marks, organisations, businesses, the local municipality and community members will be cleaning up our beautiful city again.

\They aim to pick up 3000 garbage bags of litter and focus on the maintenance of road signs, grass mowing and waste removal.

With Aardklop making its comeback, the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce decided to schedule the clean-up week to take place the week before Aardklop, from the 25th of September to the 29th of September.

The Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce’s heartbeat is all about creating a better future for Potchefstroom. They are convinced that our community can make a huge difference by standing together and being part of the solution. Instead of gathering in individual groups for clean-ups, the Chamber of Commerce invited all citizens of Potchefstroom to take hands and make a difference in their immediate area with this initiative in 2023.

Due to the big success and all the #ProPotchefstroomers who participated in the #ProPotch Clean-Up and Recycle Week in 2020, 2021 and 2022, the Chamber of Commerce decided to tackle our town once again.

“Potchefstroom has the potential to be one of the greatest cities in South Africa, but for this to happen, we need to acknowledge the problems and be the change we want to see in our city. We need the community to work together, encourage change in their neighbourhoods and create a positive mindset amongst each other”, states Juanita Smit, Chairperson of the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce.

Everybody is welcome to volunteer to clean-up in a specific area. All the litter items collected will be recycled by the municipality and Deswalner Recycling. This week will be dedicated to cleaning up the entire city. The business chamber, CleanUp Together JB Mark, businesses and environmental organisations have committed to cleaning their surrounding areas.

According to Christina den Heijer, liaison of the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce, the community’s reaction to this project thus far has been astonishing. Many companies have already agreed to take responsibility and clean certain areas during the #ProPotch Clean-Up and Recycle week.

The Chamber of Commerce encourages all community members to clean up the areas where they work, live and play by collecting the litter and ensuring that it gets recycled. Citizens who would like to volunteer to clean their specific streets or certain areas are welcome to collect free garbage bags daily at Charmaine Smit. They would also like to encourage volunteers to take before and after photos of the area they are cleaning and post it on social media, making use of the hashtag #ProPotchCleanUp.

If you or your business would like to join and make a difference, contact Christina at 071 608 8775 to get involved.
