Man killed in blast at military base
According to North West SAPS spokesperson, Capt. Aafje Botma, two boys, who attempted to pick up scrap metal in the area, alerted authorities after they heard a loud explosion.

Police are investigating an inquest after a man (40) was blown up in the Military Blast Ranges at the SANDF Army Base on Eleazer Road.
It is alleged that the man was searching for scrap metal when he supposedly picked up a live mortar round before being killed in a blast. The incident occurred on Friday, 10 November.
According to North West SAPS spokesperson, Capt. Aafje Botma, two boys, who attempted to pick up scrap metal in the area, alerted authorities after they heard a loud explosion.
“Thy heard a terribly loud bang and saw the man, sitting next to a tree. They ran and immediately called for help,” she stated.
