Five festive budget-friendly activities
Here are a list of activities to try this holiday season
- Go on a picnic
There are plenty of options to experience fresh air and pick up something tasty. A popular spot is the Gimmie Gat opposite the Mooivallei Sports Grounds on Van Rooy Street. Next to the Mooirivier, you can relax, take a blanket and enjoy some time off during the holidays.
- Host a karaoke evening
Calling all singers: You don’t need an expensive speaker or microphone to enjoy a fun karaoke night. YouTube has loads of karaoke hits, from pop to classics to hard rock and rap. Invite friends and belt out some of your favourite tunes. There are also interesting song-generating apps that add to the unpredictability, like Karaoke Roulette. (available on Google Play Store).
- Go on an MTB ride/hike
Potch is well known for its beautiful hiking and MTB routes in various directions outside of town. It is much quieter during December, so a quick ride or hike will be easy. Pack enough water and food and go in a group. Use this chance to exercise, explore and experience a different side of Potch.
- Do a coffee shop tasting
If there is one thing Potch has an abundance of, it is coffee shops or pop-up coffee shops. Instead of visiting only one shop, go to at least four a day by planning a coffee trip with friends or family. The idea is that you only pay for the shop/stall you pick. That way, everyone gets a turn to contribute while also getting to experience different coffee junkie’s dream come true!
- Read a book
Have you ever stared at your bookshelf, knowing you should read this book you bought ages ago? The problem is that you don’t have the time or are just busy. Now, it is holiday time and the perfect opportunity to pick up that book. If you need a new book, go to Potchefstroom library for a wide range of books on various topics.
