The JB Marks Local Municipality has launched the Thuntsa Lerole Reloaded – Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, running from 14 October to 13 December 2024. The initiative commenced with active participation from the Executive Mayor, Members of the Mayoral Committee, Councilors, Municipal Manager, officials, and Temporary Workers from the Expanded Public Works Programme, who joined forces for a community clean-up effort.
“Our goal is to create a cleaner, safer, and more efficient environment for our residents. We are committed to tackling issues like illegal dumping, potholes, and water leakages directly,” said Jeanette Tshite, Communications Manager at JB Marks Local Municipality. She noted the strong community response, stating, “It’s a testament to our residents’ commitment to their environment.”
The programme’s second week, scheduled for 21 to 25 October, will focus on the Promosa Precinct, particularly Wards 3, 27, and 28. Tshite explained, “Each week, we will announce the areas to be addressed in advance, ensuring transparency and community involvement.”
Key activities include fixing sewage and water leakages, clearing illegal dumping sites, repairing potholes, and addressing issues with street lighting. The Inspectorate Team from the Directorate of Community Safety has been actively monitoring local spaza shops. Shops inspected during this exercise include:
AM Hardware
Megagrocer
Promosa Farmers Market
Park Station
Low Price Tuck Shop
Binyamin Tuck Shop
Aksie Park General Dealer
AL Mokka General Dealer
Chesta Take Aways
Tshite noted, “Relevant actions were taken against non-compliant shops, and expired or rotten food items were condemned.”
The Directorate of Community Safety is also addressing road markings and signs while conducting awareness campaigns on fire safety and disaster management for preschool children. “Educating our children on these safety measures is crucial. These sessions foster a culture of awareness and prevention,” Tshite emphasized.
The Thuntsa Lerole Reloaded Programme showcases JB Marks Local Municipality’s commitment to enhancing service delivery and engaging the community. “We encourage all residents to participate and support our efforts. Together, we can create a better living environment for everyone,” Tshite concluded.
