150 Temporary jobs created through performance programme launch

The programme will run for a period of 6-months with a possibility for extension.

Athletes in Need (AIN) a non-profit organization launched its Dr Kenneth Kaunda Peak performance programme at the NWU HPI on Saturday October 19th.

Athletes In Need organization launched the first ever peak performance programme to provide temporary employment for 150 sports administrators, sports coaches, fitness coaches and sports facility cleaners through its partnership with the National Youth Development Agency – National Youth Services unit.

The programme will run for a period of 6-months with a possibility for extension.

Core activities of the programme include:

  • Schools sports training and coaching
  • Peak performance athlete support
  • Early Childhood Sports Development
  • Community sports facility cleaning
  • Athlete program development and profiling

The Peak performance programme was introduced to bridge the gap between previously disadvantaged athletes, sports clubs and sports schools in order to propel them to reach their ultimate High performance.

The name of the programme stems from the challenges that less privileged athletes and coaches face on a daily basis, more especially in rural and disadvantaged communities.

These challenges include and are not limited to talent exposure, talent identification and development, appropriate nutritional foods or supplements, effective mentorship and coaching as well as the lack of opportunities to further reach their athletic goals.

It is for these listed reasons that the North West Academy of Sport and the North West University – CHHP opted to add value for these individuals and the organization to reach their goals and objectives of the programme by providing guidance on the rollout of the programme and by training 60 coaches across the district (inclusive of an equal demarcated number of participants between all three local municipalities).

The trained coaches and AIN organization’s plan to provide effective athlete and sports support within the Dr Kenneth Kaunda district municipality doesn’t go unnoticed.

The collaboration with institutions will also enable the coaches to empower themselves for future sustainable employment and development.

Athletes, sports clubs, sports schools and departments are advised to get in touch with Athletes In Need organization to help relief the pressure for sporting achievements, at local level and at schools.
