Retief Street-bridge temporarily closed due to flooding

The low-water bridge has been close to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The low-water bridge in Retief Street next to the Trim Park is currently closed after the Mooi River’s water levels rose over the past couple of days.

Following an on-site assessment conducted by the JB Marks Disaster Management Centre, the bridge has been closed since Wednesday evening (29 April) to all vehicular traffic in the interest of public safety.

“The situation will be closely monitored, with continuous assessments undertaken to determine when it is safe to reopen the road. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the affected area and make use of alternative routes,” added JB Marks municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

Further updates will be given when the bridge will be reopened for traffic.
