Residents in Ikageng Proper (Old Ikageng) and Potchindustria are without water following an urgent shutdown at the Ikageng Pumping Station on Monday, August 24.

According to the JB Marks Local Municipality, the shutdown is necessary to allow essential work to reposition a pipeline inside the pumping station.

The municipality said the pumps had to be switched off and discharge valves isolated to ensure the work could be carried out safely and efficiently.

Municipal spokesperson Jeanette Tshite added that the work is expected to be completed as soon as possible.

“Water pumping will resume immediately upon completion of the work and once the pumping system has been safely reinstated,” said Tshite.

The municipality has urged affected residents to remain patient and make prudent use of any available water while the work is underway.

“The municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience and disruption caused by this urgent intervention,” Tshite said.

She added that the work forms part of efforts to maintain and improve the reliability of the local water supply system.

Residents are advised that water supply will be restored as soon as the necessary work has been completed and the pumping system is safely operational again.
