Eight of the High School for Girls Potchefstroom’s top debate learners made their voices heard with victory in both the junior and senior sections at the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Schools Debate Finals on Saturday, August 29.

The GHS debate girls made their school proud with a champion effort emerging as the overall winners among 16 schools that competed.

Three schools contested the final, which was hosted by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality through the Office of the Single Whip. Maquassi Hills High School took second place.

“The Schools Debate Programme is an important platform for nurturing future leaders, critical thinkers and active citizens. Through debates, learners are encouraged to research issues affecting society, engage constructively with different viewpoints, build confidence and develop the communication skills necessary to participate meaningfully in democratic processes,” stated the Dr KK District Municipality.

Girls High were thrilled with the victory, which culminated after hours of preparation.

“The team consistently dominated throughout the competition, delivering outstanding performances across all categories, from the junior to the senior divisions,” stated The High School for Girls Potchefstroom on its Facebook page.

Ms Gomolemo Letlhomo (manager), Mr Zukisane Nameka (coach) and the debate learners from Girls High put in a lot of work, dedication and commitment to secure the victory.

Junior team members: Zukhanye Mlauza, Sinaye Tuntulwana, Atlegang Galeboe and Alicia Boreni.

Senior team members: Lethabo Tsiri, Diya Zacaria, Mpho Matamela and Mokgetoa Ramusi.
