The New Year has started off positively for North West Cricket with both their school players and senior players performing excellently for their respective teams.

Three of their senior players have been included in the National Academy setup for 2016, with Marques Ackerman and Bjorn Fortuin in the men’s side and Sinalo Japhta in the women’s side.

“The National Academy Programme forms a very strategic part of our developmental pipeline and aims to prepare young players for the demands of professional cricket,” says CSA general manager: Cricket, Corrie van Zyl, The selected players, who are carefully identified, include previous graduates of the SA u.19 programme, performing senior provincial and emerging franchise players.

Furthermore, Ruan Haasbroek was the top run scorer at the u.19 Coke week and was chosen for the SA Schools Colts team.  As part of that team, he scored 70 against the SA Schools team.

Reabetswe Dikgwatsi was chosen for the SA u.17 team and will represent this team at the National Cubs week currently taking place in Stellenbosch. Haasbroek, Lesego Senokwane and Wian Maritz were all chosen to represent the Lions Cubs team, with Hendrik de Vos operating as coach/manager. Haasbroek has also already received a man of the match award. At a provincial level, Dragons player, Nicky van den Bergh was included in the Lions Sunfoil team as wicketkeeper/batsman. He scored 2 half-centuries in the first 2 matches, which helped the team win on both occasions.
