The year 2016 has surely been a revelatory year for Potchefstroom Girls High’s outstanding mountain biker, Andrea de Waal. She won the 30 km USN MTB Cup in the Modderfontein Nature Reserve on Saturday, 22 October and has now, consequently, won the series.

The series consisted of five races and De Waal’s consistency and work ethic carried her through as the overall champion. She also recently competed in the Berg and Bush Race with Alain Slabbert in the mixed category.

They ended third overall on both the Saturday and the Sunday. Saturday’s course was a 60 km ride with over 900 m of climbing which the duo completed in 3:18. They completed Sunday’s 49 km course with 930 meter of climbing in 2:49. Out of 537 riders, they ended 54th overall and third in the mixed category.
