The Leopards Women’s League was in full swing last Saturday, 22 April, when Potch Dorp Rugby Club hosted a feast of rugby matches that saw Potch Dorp, Ikageng, Matlosana and Mmabatho compete for league points.

The home side, Potch Dorp, with Estie Vorster as the coach, took on Matlosana in the first match of the day and lost 0-7 in a tight encounter that could have gone either way.

Potch Dorp’s ladies regrouped against Ikageng’s women’s rugby team, though,  with a dominating 39-5 victory. The stars of the show for Potch Dorp were centre Bianca van den Berg, prop Lizzy Ramorwesi and flyhalf, Cathy Brough. Brough scored a hat trick, while Carina Kruger, Baby Plaatjies and Veronica Xheko also dotted down five pointers. Elcasia Engelbrecht  scored the only try for Ikageng. The quality was on display for all to see on the day as women’s rugby is steadily making an impact on the local sports scene. The tackles are ferocious and the sidesteps truly elegant – a great mix of aggression and beauty that are all trademarks of great rugby.
