The u.21 IPT hockey tournament that was hosted in Potchefstroom this past week (4–9 September) dished up some exhilarating action as North West tested their mettle against the nation’s best. North West‘s women performed better than the men in this tournament and finished fifth overall as opposed to the eighth place that the men achieved.

Still, this does not discount the way in which both these teams played on home turf. If one or two of the chances had gone their way, they might have finished even better and the competitive results of their matches speak volumes about North West’s improvement in the past year.

Pierre Botma was the top scorer for North West’s u.21 men’s team with 3 goals while Anneke Beukman topped the goal scoring charts for the NW Women with 5 goals.
South Gauteng won the women’s edition while Western Province claimed the men’s title.
