Central’s biathlon hope ready to shine at SA champs

“I want a place in the top 10 at the SA championships and I’m hoping I can achieve it,”

Potchefstroom Central’s aspiring young biathlete, Jace Gomes (12) is making strides and progressing swimmingly in his sport.

Gomes recently set the North West Biathlon Championships alight with a fourth place to qualify for the SA Biathlon Championships in Port Elizabeth from 29 to 30 March.
Gomes’ journey into the sport started two years ago when Ms Elmarie Engles, a teacher at Potch Central introduced him to the discipline.

The rest, as they say, is history. Gomes now finds himself in contention for a top-10 spot at the national championships.
“I like the swimming part of biathlon the most and the sportsmanship and competitiveness is also something I enjoy about it,” said the well-spoken athlete.

Biathlon in Gomes’ age category consists of a 100 m swimming leg and a 1.2 km running stretch.
“I want a place in the top 10 at the SA championships and I’m hoping I can achieve it,” he added confidently.

Jace Gomes (12) will represent North West at the SA Biathlon Championships in March.
