Lee confident after Proteas women pull off series win against Pakistan

Lee, a Proteas regular, did not have the best series failing in her first two innings, but came back in the third ODI with a polished 49 (68), just missing out on a half-century.

The Proteas Women got their international campaign back on track with a 3-0 win against Pakistan Women in their One Day International series this past week in Durban. Several NW Dragons players such Tazmin Brits, Anneke Bosch, Tumi Sekhukhune, Masabata Klaas and Lizelle Lee all represented their nation with Brits making her debut in the third ODI. Lee, a Proteas regular, did not have the best series failing in her first two innings, but came back in the third ODI with a polished 49 (68), just missing out on a half-century.

The series was a low scoring affair with SA winning by 3 runs, 13 runs and 32 runs in the three matches. “There is still a lot of hard work that needs to be done. We’ve been out for 11 months, but its no excuse to execute our skills properly. I’ve been hitting the balls extremely well in the nets, it’s just about putting it right in the game. To be a good player you need to be consistent. Our main aim is to win a World Cup,” added Lee.

The 50 over women’s World Cup would have been hosted in February – March this year, but due to Covid-19 the tournament has been delayed until 2022. “This is the perfect series to get back into the game after the break. The team is in great spirits after winning the series,” added Lee.

The experienced SA fast bowler, Shabnim Ismail, was named as the player of the series for her superb bowling effort, picking up 7 wickets at an average 17.28.
