Ikageng run through Lichtenburg to book their spot in first Neser League final

Ikageng ran Lichtenburg to pieces with a 43-27 win.

A hat-trick from speedy winger, Nkanyiso Doyi set Ikageng Rugby Development Club on their way to the Neser League final with a convincing 43-27 win against Lichtenburg Rugby Club today at Olen Park.

Ikageng were in the driving seat after taking a 33-15 lead at half-time thanks to superb and quick backline play which ran Lichtenburg to pieces.

Mphumzi Kete was also pin point with his goal kicking, which kept the pressure on. The second-half was more sedate for Ikageng as they put their foot off the pedal and kept a shell shocked Lichtenburg side at bay.

The outstanding players for Ikageng were Doyi, hooker, Athini Rasi, as well as right wing, Leon Pheto, but all in all every players on the pitch can be praised for their hard work and determination to make it all the way to final.

Ikageng coach and chairman, Euboy Mampangashe could not keep his smile hidden after the match, with the knowledge that his team is only one win away from the biggest prize in his club’s history.

Ikageng will face Potch Dorp in the final next week, after the latter convincingly beat Zeerust 46-12 to book their plac in the final next Saturday, 19 June.

It promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Potch Dorp looking to secure the title for the first time in eight years. Ikageng will want to bag their first Neser League which would definitely finish the fairy tale run in style.
